Workshop: Environmental Science in a Warming World

On Friday 17 February 2017

For our workshop on Environmental Science in a Warming World, we will start off with a general introduction on climate change, given by Volker Brüchert from the Department of Geological Science at Stockholm University (SU), followed by a more specific seminar on future conditions in the Baltic Sea with a focus on carbon cycling, given by Professor Bo Gustafsson from the Baltic Nest Institute. We will then move to how these impacts of climate change on the carbon cycling can influence the availability of persistent organic pollutants, in a seminar by Anna Sobek from the Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry (ACES, SU). Professor Elena Gorokhova from ACES will then give a seminar on the use of indicators to assess the impact of climate change and Johan Eklöf from the DEEP at Stockholm University will give a talk about ecosystem resilience to climate change, including a broad and hopefully thoughtprovoking overview of current knowledge of factors that influence ecosystem resilience to climate change. To conclude our workshop, we will have a seminar from Tomas Thierfelder from SLU on climate-change effects on the epidemiology of infectious diseases and the impacts on Northern societies.

For each presentation 20 minutes of lecture followed by 10 minutes of discussion are scheduled.
